The answer is Yes…If, you have your own studio, HD Video Cameras, professional audio equipment, studio lighting and pro-level post-production editing software with a large library of licensed images and music tracks, not to mention having a scripting writer and make-up artist. Oh, and, of course, a crew of people to help you set all of this. Then you could in a few hours produce your own videos.
Now, all of this is if you are serious after producing a video that consumers..or anyone will watch.
What Are You Worth?
Of course, you are more than likely going to whip out your smartphone, throw it on a tripod, and hit the record button to produce a video nobody is going to watch. But hey! You have options and having options is good.
Seriously, if you did the math on all of the equipment you need to produce a video that 93% of the viewers on YouTube will watch to the very end you would have a lot invested. Somewhere around $30k would be an informed estimate.
If you were able to produce a one-minute video every business day that would be around $140 a video…not bad for 221 videos. But unless you are in the business of producing videos the likelihood of you producing that many videos would be unlikely.
Something like a video a month would be more like what a do-it-yourselfer would produce if they had all of the equipment and it still all worked over a year. That would put the cost per video around $2500 for a one-minute video.
When Would You Do Your Business?
So is making your own video actually worth it? If you are a solopreneur with an eat-what-you-kill revenue source then you probably are not likely to be able to sustain producing your own videos.
If you are a corporation with huge amounts of human resources you may opt to attempt to produce your own videos but it is guaranteed someone in the C-Suite is going to question why you are using budgeted funds slated for payroll to use for producing marketing videos?
All those other levels of businesses in between, well, you probably are going to find handing over your video production to a video-centric digital marketing agency would make better sense than attempting to produce your own videos.
Even if you have an award-winning videographer on staff to handle all of your client’s creative needs, it probably would be a question of whether it makes much sense to have that person stop working with clients to produce videos.
Do The Math
Once you do the math on how much you are spending to produce your own marketing videos and then considering all of the time it took you to make those videos it starts making sense you need to hire a video production firm that specializes in marketing videos.
We know you are worth far more than you are making from producing your own videos. That is why we do what we do.
